Our Secret Streets
Our Secret Streets is a six part series for BBC2 exploring the history of London over the last 120 years since the social researcher Charles Booth visited every street in London for his ambitious survey: Life and Labour in London. It took him 17 years to complete his incredible study and we are now updating the survey by focusing on six London streets and areas, including Deptford High St and the residential streets connected to the streets.
As a former Pupil of this school in the late 1970's I was very saddened to hear of its demise. When I went to the school it was a busy, vibrant and joyous place. The head mistress of the time, Mrs Broad, was well known in Deptford and Greenwich for her generosity and kindness, she campaigned hard to try to save the school from demolition in the 1990's but to no avail. Today only half a dozen town houses stand in its place, a very unfitting end to a school which lasted for generations. NB.
